Welcome to ISMAT

These are all assets of a university project of great quality and dynamism. A university project that has already trained around 2,400 graduates in the most diverse areas of knowledge. People who are making their contribution to the development of the Algarve and Portugal, who face their professional challenges on a daily basis with the brand and guarantee of the Lusófona Group.

A university institute transmits knowledge and know-how, but it also has to create new knowledge, interact with the surrounding world, internationalise, innovate and take risks. That's what ISMAT is doing.

But we have many other challenges ahead of us:

  • We are working on expanding our range of degree programmes, proposing new bachelor's, master's and even doctoral programmes.
  • We are carrying out a cycle of evaluation at institutional level, which is an opportunity to improve the quality of the education we offer.
  • We are energising the entire academic community with new projects and new challenges.
  • We are offering a broad programme of postgraduate courses, which includes several new features.
  • We are deepening internationalisation by increasing the mobility of teachers and students thanks to the Erasmus+ and Overseas programmes.
  • We are consolidating our research centres and boosting research projects and publication activities. We are extending our contacts and protocols across all sectors of activity in the Algarve.
  • We are consolidating our internal quality management system.

Portimão has all the advantages of peripheral cities: it has a human dimension and a peaceful pace of life. But it also has a cosmopolitan and modern atmosphere, an enviable climate and a truly unique cultural dynamism. It's no coincidence that Portimão is one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations. It's the place where everyone wants to go on holiday? That's why it's also the ideal place to study.

And ISMAT, as well as being part of the Lusófona Group, the largest private and co-operative education group in Portugal, has the undeniable advantage of its size.
