    The Adapted Sports Curriculum Unit is extremely important in the Sports Sciences Degree, whether from the perspective of acquiring knowledge and skills related to future teachers in the area of Physical Education or in the area of Adapted Sports, being future professionals sensitized to inclusion and difference.

    S1: Adapted Sport and Adapted Physical Activity (concepts, definitions; historical context and stereotypes; holistic benefits; national and international structures and organizations); S2: Physical Disability (definition; etiology and medical classification; general characterization; implications for physical and sporting practice; paralympic sports - sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball); S3: Intellectual Disability (definition; etiology and medical classification; general characterization; implications in terms of physical and sporting practice; paralympic sports - boccia and swimming); S4: Visual Impairment (definition; etiology and medical classification; general characterization; implications for physical and sporting practice; paralympic sports - goalball and judo); S5: Hearing Impairment (definition; etiology and medical classification; general characterization; implications for physical and sporting practice; Portuguese sign language).
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    The objectives of this Curricular Unit are: ILC1: Understand the importance of the adapted physical activity professional as an educational agent; ILC2: Characterize special populations by focusing on the specific needs of each group (physical, intellectual, visual and hearing impairment) fundamentally in the context of physical activity and sport; ILC3: Acquire knowledge, skills and self-analysis to describe and characterize the limitations of people with disabilities in relation to activity and participation restrictions in the field of physical activity and sport, as well as pedagogical intervention in the teaching-learning process; ILC4: Acquire and master methodologies and techniques that contribute to the mobility autonomy of people with disabilities.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
    Teaching methodologies include: theoretical classes (T), eminently expository in character through oral communication with the aid of audiovisual means; theoretical-practical classes (TP), in which the activities to be developed include reading scientific articles, applying reference criteria for the classification of several variables, practical experience in conducting teaching and problem solving / cases; laboratory practice (PL) or practice (P) in the classroom and / or laboratory environment (ground) for practical classes. The b-learning system will be used with the help of the Moodle platform to make individual work support documents available to the student. Continuous assessment is divided into two components: (i) theoretical: two theoretical assessments of the content presented, one in the middle of the semester and another at the end; and, (ii) practical: individual and group work.
