    S1. Number systems; base conversion; arithmetic in different bases. S2. Introduction to the basic components of a digital computer: CPU, memory, buses, I/O devices. S3. Instruction set basics and addressing modes. S4. Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU) and Control Unit (concepts). S5. Control logic design (hardwired control). S6. Microprogrammed control.    S7. CPU design (datapath + control). S8. RISC processors. S9. Pipelined processing. S10. Memory hierarchy in a digital computer. S11. Memory management (OS support / virtual memory concepts). S12. Input/Output (I/O) organization. S13. Computer/system organization types: SISD, SIMD, MISD, MIMD (Flynn taxonomy). S14. Memory organization in multiprocessors: private vs shared memory; interconnection networks. S15. Assembly programming.

    LO1: Understand how computers work, from the microscopic perspective to the macroscopic perspective. LO2: Recognize the capabilities and limitations of a computer. LO3: Understand how the various elements of a computer's structure / architecture interact. LO4: Knowing how to recognize the different blocks that make up a digital computer. LO5: Know how to distinguish the different types of architectures. LO6: Knowing how to identify hardware limitations and their consequences at the software level. LO7: Being able to develop algorithms to solve problems in machine language.
