ApresentaçãoPresentationThe Ethics and Deontology Curricular Unit aims to provide students with the theoretical foundations and practical applicability of decision-making processes in different contexts and areas of Psychology, based on the Code of Ethics and Deontology of the Portuguese Psychologists Association. Throughout the Course, students will have the opportunity to promote their critical thinking, identify and recognize the general and specific principles underlying ethical decision-making in the exercise of the profession and analyze, discuss and present the results of the applied decision-making process to practical cases and specific ethical dilemmas.

ProgramaProgrammeDescription of contents: Fundamentals of Research and Professional Practice in Psychology. Planning and basic decision-making processes. Basic notions of bioethics and fundamental values in Psychology. Codes of Ethics and Deontology: The regulation of the exercise of the profession. The Code of Ethics of the Order of Portuguese Psychologists. General principles. Competence, informed consent, privacy and confidentiality. Boundaries, multiple roles and professional relationships. Responsibility. Ethical decisions. Ethics in Professional Practice. Ethics in Research. Ethical issues with vulnerable populations and specific contexts: children and adolescents, elderly, psychological assessment and investigation, health care and school, forensic and organizational contexts. Resolution of ethical dilemmas. General foundations of Bioethics. Specificities of Ethical Decision in Palliative Care.

ObjectivosObjectivesProvide information on ethical and deontological principles underlying training in Psychology. Provide information about the main contexts and areas of ethical decision in Psychology. It is intended to acquire skills related to the development of the ability to critically reflect on the ethical and deontological aspects underlying training in Psychology, including the ability to critically reflect on ethical dilemmas in psychology, and related to decision-making in psychology. resolution of dilemmas in specific situations and contexts, based on the analysis of the principles involved in the code of ethics and deontology.
