Modeling and Clothing Workshop V
Fashion and Textile Design and Production
-
ApresentaçãoPresentationPattern and sewing atelier V is fundamental for third-year Fashion and Textile Design and Production students. Pattern-making and sewing subjects are essential to put into practice what the students theorise and conceptualise. The course therefore covers various complex pattern making techniques, with a special focus on the different behaviours of textile materials (knits, heavy materials, linings and interlinings) and the complexity of constructing and making garments. This approach allows students to learn and develop their technical skills at a deeper level. These skills coincide with the development of the student's final collection, as it is intended that the development of the conceptual product will begin during this semester and initially only at the prototype phase. The students will use their collection, sketch and/or technical sheet and tech pack developed in the Fashion Design I Lab and Project Management as a basis.

ProgramaProgrammeThe semester will be divided into the following tasks: 1) Pattern projection of knitted garments: Sweatshirt and complements (Sleeve, collar and Hood). 2) Pattern projection for knitted garments: Legging 3) Pattern projection of an overcoat base; 4) Interiors: Designing interlining and lining patterns: Full and half lining 5) Overcoat: Transformation of the block base; 6) Development of prototyping.

ObjectivosObjectivesPattern making and sewing are fundamental fields in the development of clothing products and fashion collections. The UC's objectives are to provide students with skills related to: - Knowing and making basic knitwear patterns and their technical particularities (seams, material and appropriate machinery for sewing); - Knowing and making highly complex basic patterns; - Make adaptations and transformations based on the design proposed by the student; - Knowing and developing two-dimensional modelling and prototyping; - Knowing techniques and directing pattern making and making-up solutions for conceptual clothing: production processes, opportunities and challenges.

MetodologiaMethodologyThe curricular unit will be developed through theoretical-practical, expository and demonstrative sessions and practical work of an experimental nature developed during class sessions. A participatory approach will be encouraged, facilitating the assimilation of content and fostering teacher/student interaction. Tutorial teaching, as an active method, will be fundamentally used to accompany the project, carried out throughout the classes. The development of basic pattern transformations based on previous knowledge acquired from detailing, sketches and/or technical sheets improves the student's technique and the quality of their products. It will also sharpen their instinct and intuition, making them feel more comfortable in the future when working in areas surrounding design: pattern making and sewing, as well, as production and product development departments.
