    Pattern-making and sewing are fundamental fields in the development of clothing products for fashion brands and Portuguese ITVs. It is common for recent graduates to start their career in areas surrounding design after graduating and entering the world of work. It is therefore crucial that students master the patternmaking and sewing components and know how to implement it properly in the practical side of the course, combining design with technique.

    The semester will be divided into the following theoretical content and practical work: 1) Pattern making of a classic men's shirt and its complements: scapular, sleeve, cuff, collar, collar stand, sleeve placket, front placket; 2) Shirt grading exercise (front, back and sleeve); 3) Men's jacket details (sleeves and pocket patterns, prototyping); 4) Base of classic men's trousers; 5) Transformation of basic jacket patterns, extraction and addition of sewing values, as well as, all the information needed for cutting plan; 6) Sewing a jacket (proto and final piece). 
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    Pattern making and Sewing Atelier III is a theoretical and practical curricular unit that allows students to broaden their knowledge in the execution of basic body patterns and their adaptations considering the design that was proposed by the student, as well as, to build prototypes that meet the idea, concepts, silhouetes and fit. Based on a streetwear/sportswear product, this unit  will support students to understand the relationship between modelling and sewing in the contemporary fashion industry to foster processes, perceive opportunities and overcome challenges.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
    The curricular unit will be lectured through theoretical-practical sessions, expositive and demonstrative, and practical work of experimental character developed during the class sessions. Will be encouraged the participatory character to facilitate the assimilation of content and foster interaction between teacher and student. Tutorial teaching, as an active method, will be fundamentally used in project monitoring, carried out throughout the course unit.
