Photography II

Design
  • ApresentaçãoPresentation
The Photography I course aims to introduce students to the use of photographic tools for the production of design objects. To achieve this, students are introduced to the black and white analog laboratory environment so that they can produce an alphabet using photograms. The final goal is to create a photographic alphabet and use that alphabet to write a short text. Key points: Introduce students to the black and white photographic laboratory. Develop an understanding of the Negative/Positive printing logic. Establish a diverse understanding of typeface construction, focusing on the manual creation of each letter in an analog environment. Introduction of alternative image-making processes: Cianotype and Anthotype.
  • ProgramaProgramme
Introduction to the analog black and white photographic lab environment. Enlarger; Timer; Chemicals (Developer, Stop Bath, Fixer) Creation of grayscale scales and photograms. Construction of a pinhole camera. Use of the camera to produce paper negatives. Printing of paper negatives (positive prints). Types of photographic supports Exposure and composition variables. Aperture; Shutter; ISO. Focal lengths and types of lenses: Wide-angle, Standard, Telephoto. Final projects: Creation of an alphabet using photograms and analog tools. Development of a photographic narrative using the pinhole camera.
  • ObjectivosObjectives
Introduce students to the black and white photographic lab. Ability to use the photographic enlarger as a tool for direct printing onto photographic paper. Understanding the procedural functioning of black and white photography. Development of typographic creation experience through the alteration of raw materials and the creative process, fostering a deeper and more diverse understanding of the individual characteristics of each character. Understand the different plasticities of raw materials for producing images with varying contrasts and densities. Develop the ability to understand the logic of Negative/Positive printing. Establish a diverse understanding in the construction of typefaces, focused on the manual creation of each letter in an analog environment.
