Printing and Stamping

Fashion and Textile Design and Production
  • ApresentaçãoPresentation
The Printing and Screening Course Unit explores traditional and digital textile printing processes, addressing the relationship between fibers, dyes and pre-treatments. It works in the field of textile and fashion design, enabling students to develop patterns and collections applicable to the industry. Its areas of intervention include the creation of prints, innovation in materials and productive efficiency in textile printing. Essential in the study cycle of the Bachelor's Degree in Fashion and Textile Design and Production, this unit prepares students to respond to the demands of the sector, combining technical and creative knowledge.
  • ProgramaProgramme
    1. Introduction to textile printing and printing - definitions, characteristics and different techniques/processes. 2. Fabric printing and printing techniques and processes - by the meter and by the piece. 3. Relationship between textile fibers and the types of dye and prior treatments to be applied. Printing processes and applied technology. 4. Development of patterns for textile printing applied to artisanal processes. Development of patterns for textile printing applied to industrial processes. Practical work - Project for creating a print and its application in a fashion design collection.
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    1. Understand the concepts and processes (traditional and digital) of textile printing and printing; 2. Relate textile materials to the type of dye and the pretreatment to be applied; 3. Identify the stages and technologies of the different textile printing processes; 4. Research, in the form of case studies, textile printing and printing companies, focusing on the process, technologies applied and organization of the workflow; 5. Develop a project of patterns for prints applied to a fashion design collection.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
The course combines theory and practice, exploring manual and digital printing. Case studies analyze companies and designers, while tutorial teaching promotes autonomy in projects. Practical work allows the creation of patterns for different techniques, enriching the students' portfolio. Innovative methodologies include Project-Based Learning (PBL), Creative Laboratories with technological and traditional resources, Virtual Simulations to test digital patterns, Collaborative Learning in partnership with companies, with a focus on innovation in materials and productive efficiency in textile printing. The assessment is continuous, considering attendance (10%), case study (20%) and practical printing work with artisanal (25%) and industrial (25%) techniques, and experience report in the company (20%).
