Social Security Law

  This curricular unit aims to develop knowledge and skills concerning the regulatory framework of Social Security law, with particular emphasis on the contributory (or insurance-based) pillar and the complementary pillar, in interaction with Employment and Labour Law.

• ObjectivosObjectives

  The goal is to acquaint students to the normative system of Social Security Law encompasses both its structural norms and the normative sources of international and national law. Students will become acquainted with the three pillars or protection systems that constitute the Social Security system, studying who the beneficiaries are, the configuration of legal relationships, the types of benefits granted, as well as the eligibility requirements for benefits for each of the covered contingencies. Apart from obtaining a theoretical basis, the aim is for students to be capable to solve practical situations and, where relevant, comparing the national legal system with foreign legal regimes, and be familiar with jurisprudential sources related to the program content.

• MetodologiaMethodology

  The curricular unit will be teaching with a balance between theorical-practical exposition of topics by professor (presentation and discussion of the subjects and questions of the syllabus and their knowledge application) in the and dialogue with and between students. During classes students are encouraged to ask questions, give their opinion in relevant subjects, and participate in case-solving classes. Presenting assignments is also a very important learning tool. Students may choose to write an essay on a particular subject. A list of suggestions will be available, but students may choose a different subject. The professor will be available to discuss the subject choice.
