Celebrating Europe Day

The commemoration of Europe Day on May 9 will be marked, as in 2024, with a series of activities developed by ISMAT students and teachers from different courses, with the aim of (i) disseminating knowledge about the EU and (ii) promoting debate on some of the most relevant issues in the European debate, this year involving a debate on artificial intelligence and a conference on EU Security and Defence (iii) raising awareness among and involving young people in particular, ISMAT students and students from secondary schools in the Portimão, Lagoa and Lagoa councils.

The activities include the organisation of Stand Europe, which will disseminate information (documents, videos) and promote a Quiz aimed at students; a debate on the EU and artificial intelligence, a session presenting and interpreting EU symbols, namely the anthem of Europe and a Conference on the theme of EU Security and Defence, combining the political, military, academic and defence industry perspectives.

10:00 am Opening of the Europe Stand

  • Visits by ISMAT students and lecturers (Quiz, distribution of materials, video commentaries)

11:00 am - Reception of secondary school students

  • Visits to the Europe Stand (Quiz, distribution of materials, video commentaries)
  • Guided tours of the exhibition "Genocides: Learn, Understand, Prevent"

2:00 pm Europe Stand

  • Visits by secondary school students / Visits by ISMAT students and lecturers / Visits by external guests

3:00 pm Europe Stand (auditorium)

  • Debate “The EU and the 4th Industrial Revolution: the challenges of Artificial Intelligence”

4:30 pm EU Symbols Session

  • Presentation of the 5 EU symbols: Europe Day, Anthem, Euro, Motto, Flag
  • Performance of the EU Anthem by the Portimão Philharmonic Band

5:30 pm Conference (Former Portimão Fish Market Space)
