Cooperation between ISMAT and Turkey
From 21 to 25 November 2024, the final visit of the BioMaterial Kit project took place with partners in Turkey, strengthening the collaboration between the Municipality of Portimão and the Municipality of Bayraklı, in partnership with ISMAT and İzmir University of Economics.
This innovative project promoted the exchange of best practices related to climate and the environment, consolidating close cooperation between the implementations carried out in Portimão and Bayraklı, as well as through the mobility of the teams involved.
The impact of the initiative was widely recognised, standing out for the transfer of knowledge from students to their wider communities. Furthermore, there was an integration of solutions based on biological materials into educational curricula, with the aim of addressing everyday challenges. This approach seeks to raise community awareness of the importance of sustainable development and lifestyles that respect harmony with nature.
The visit was attended by a delegation from the Portimão City Council, composed of Vice-President Teresa Mendes, Dr Filipe Jorge, Dr Arminda Duarte, and Dr Dora Pereira, as well as Professor David Palma, representative of the Communication Design course at ISMAT.
During the visit, in addition to the signing of an agreement formalising this participatory project between the two municipalities, activities were carried out to observe the final results of the project. A rich debate was also promoted on the impacts achieved, highlighting the success of the initiative and reinforcing the commitment of the parties involved to sustainability and educational innovation.
The BioMaterials Kit reaffirms the importance of international cooperation and education in developing creative and sustainable solutions that benefit both local communities and the global environment.
