The BIP program brought together students and faculty from eight European countries to develop urban regeneration proposals for the city's historic center.

Between September 1st and 5th, Portimão hosted the international workshop “Living with Earthquakes: Learning from the historic town for a contemporary sustainable agenda”.

Coordinated by professors Ana Bordalo and Maria Rita Pais, the project was part of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) and brought together students and faculty from ISMAT, Universidade Lusófona, and partner institutions from Italy, Slovenia, Spain, Poland, Greece, Germany, and Romania.

Building on reflection regarding the memory of the 1755 earthquake and Portimão's relationship with the Arade River, the working groups analyzed the historic center through resident surveys and urban mapping methodologies.

The event resulted in six strategic public intervention proposals, presented at the Portimão Museum Auditorium.

The initiative will continue during the 2026/27 academic year with a new edition of the BIP, furthering the model of urban prevention, adaptation, and sustainability together with the local community.
