At the invitation of ULS Algarve, Architecture and Design students and faculty designed a new visual and functional image for the hospital's facades and entrances.
At the invitation of the Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS Algarve), ISMAT's Department of Architecture, Arts and Design (DAAD) developed a chromatic intervention proposal for the Portimão Hospital.
The project aimed to enhance the exterior facades and humanize access to the building, bringing together an interdisciplinary team of students and faculty from the Bachelor's degree in Design, the Integrated Master's in Architecture, the Master's in Building and Site Rehabilitation, and the Master's in Design for Circular Economy.
Coordinated by professors Ana Bordalo and Susana Leonor, the working group included faculty members Miguel Aboim Borges and José Carvalho, as well as students Andreia Cabrita Mateus, Jim Pinto, Diana Louro, and Ricardo Brazona. Inspired by Portimão's seafront, sand, and cliffs, the color palette combines shades of blue, green, and warm hues from the local landscape.
In addition to modernizing the exterior image, color will serve as a signage and wayfinding element at the main entrance, emergency room, and pediatric emergency room, facilitating navigation and reaffirming ISMAT's commitment to community well-being.
