ISMAT Master’s Director Debates Child Protection on RTP Açores

Professor André Tavares Rodrigues was invited to the "Grande Debate" to discuss the challenges and risks affecting children in the Autonomous Region.

To mark the end of Child Abuse Prevention Month, RTP Açores invited Professor André Tavares Rodrigues, PhD, Director of the Master’s in Work, Organizational, and Health Psychology (PTeSO) at ISMAT, as a speaker on the program "Grande Debate." Moderated by journalist Rúben Medeiros, the session focused on "Child Protection Challenges in the Region," at a time when data reveals 786 children are in confirmed danger in the Azores.

The debate featured a multidisciplinary panel, including Emanuel Areias (Azores Children’s Commissioner), Fátima Amaral (APAV), lawyer Elias Pereira, and Renato Furtado (Director of the PJ in the Azores). During the broadcast, critical risk factors such as neglect, domestic violence, physical abuse, and school dropout were analyzed. The participation of the ISMAT professor underscores the importance of research and scientific knowledge in seeking solutions to protect the rights of children and youth.
