ISMAT professor debates the identity of the teacher-artist and the paths of training in an International Panel promoted by La Salle University.

On May 21, 2026, Professor Anderson Luiz de Souza participated as an invited speaker in the International Panel entitled “Teacher Training: paths and challenges,” which was part of the program of the II International Seminar on Education – Public Policies, Childhoods, and Knowledge: new paths for teacher training.

The event was held by La Salle University – Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) between May 18 and 21, 2026, bringing together researchers, teachers, students, and professionals from the field of Education to reflect on the contemporary challenges of teacher training.

In his speech, entitled “There was no ready-made path: the drawing of a teacher-artist life,” Professor Anderson Luiz de Souza shared aspects of his teaching career, reflecting especially on the construction of the identity of the teacher-artist and the artist-teacher. The talk proposed a sensitive reflection on the paths of teacher training in Art Education, based on a personal trajectory marked by choices, detours, discoveries, and reinventions.

Starting from the idea that there is no perfect path to becoming a teacher, artist, or researcher, the speaker highlighted training as a continuous construction, made of encounters, experiences, doubts, and an openness to change. By sharing aspects of his own journey, the professor invited undergraduate students to understand teaching as a creative, ethical, and sensitive practice, in which art and education nurture each other.

The presentation sought to inspire future teachers to pursue their desires responsibly, keeping alive listening, curiosity, and the courage to transform their path as they walk.
