ISMAT presents CITAI-FABXR, a new hub for tech and territorial innovation

Dedicated to Extended Reality and Advanced Manufacturing, the new center aims to boost innovation and knowledge transfer in the Algarve.

On March 2, 2026, ISMAT presented CITAI-FABXR (Center for Technological Interface in XR and Advanced Manufacturing), a new infrastructure dedicated to applied research, technological experimentation, and knowledge transfer.

The presentation was signed by Américo Mateus, also highlighting the shared coordination of the center with Paulo Martins, Susana Leonor, and Liliana Pina.

The new center focuses on areas such as extended reality, three-dimensional digitization, digital fabrication, and biofabrication, positioning itself as a space for collaborative innovation between researchers, companies, municipalities, and the wider community.

According to the document, the project was conceived with a strong connection to the Algarve region and with the support of national and international networks.

During the session, contributions and support from several key figures and strategic partners were also acknowledged, including Luís Martins, Professor Jorge Lopes, Professor Heron Werner, as well as ISMAT’s Administration and Board, represented by Célia Pires and Rui Loureiro.
