João Pedro Portugal was a guest speaker at ISLA Gaia, where he presented the communication “Humanly Intelligent Tourism”.
Professor João Pedro Portugal participated on May 27th as a speaker at the XV Tourism Conference of ISLA Gaia, in Vila Nova de Gaia, under the theme “Knowledge and Algorithms: Artificial Intelligence at the service of Tourism”.
His presentation, entitled “Humanly Intelligent Tourism”, integrated a reflection on how new artificial intelligence tools are shaping the professional tourism and hospitality sector on a global scale.
Throughout the session, concepts frequently associated with digital transformation, such as big data, machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence, were demystified, aiming to clarify their role and application within the tourism context.
The communication also highlighted several research outputs that contribute to the technological development of the sector, reinforcing the importance of a critical, applied, and human-oriented approach to the adoption of AI in tourism.
The XV Tourism Conference brought together representatives from academia, businesses, and public entities, including panels on intelligent organizations and territories, practical workshops on AI applied to tourism, and the inauguration of the TourismHub and room 127 of “The Museum of Tourism”.
