ISMAT Promotes Upcycling and Fashion Design Workshops at Schools in the Region
19 February 2025

Fashion workshops raise awareness of textile waste
To raise awareness of textile waste among students at different levels of education, several Upcycling workshops were held in secondary schools and on the ISMAT campus. These activities provided an extremely creative and enriching experience for students from 8th to 12th grade, covering the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education and secondary education.
The focus was on reducing, reusing and recycling textile materials and garments. Throughout the workshops, participants explored various techniques, such as sewing, crochet and manipulating materials, developing unique and personalised pieces.
The creative process always combined the technical part with the concept of the products. The activities culminated in a morning dedicated to fashion design, in which the students were able to explore the artistic side of the fashion universe.
During this session, they learnt how to draw the human figure with proportions adapted to the standards of the fashion industry and practised drawing clothes, paying special attention to representing the fit of fabrics.
The teaching staff of ISMAT's Fashion and Textile Design and Production Degree would like to thank Gil Eanes Primary and Secondary School (Lagos) and Albufeira Primary and Secondary School for their availability and support.
