Under the Psychology of Emotions and Motivation course, first-year students learned first-hand about specialized support for crime victims.
First-year psychology students at ISMAT took a field trip to the APAV – Portimão Branch as part of the “Psychology of Emotions and Motivation” course, led by Professor Raíssa Santos.

The APAV technical team presented how the branch operates, the main procedures for receiving and supporting victims, and the challenges associated with psychological, social, and legal intervention in this context.
Relevant topics were addressed, such as:
- Psychological support for victims of domestic violence and other crimes;
- The importance of active listening and humanized intervention;
- Procedures for referring and protecting victims; Networking among institutions;
- The psychological impact of trauma and victimization.
For ISMAT students, this activity represented an enriching experience of engaging with professional reality, fostering the development of interpersonal skills, social sensitivity, and critical awareness regarding the role of psychology in promoting the well-being and protection of victims.
The initiative is part of ISMAT’s commitment to providing diverse educational experiences and direct contact with leading institutions, strengthening the link between academic learning and professional practice.
