Under the guidance of Celina Melo, Fashion Design students explored artisanal techniques to create innovative textile surfaces.

On May 4th, the [RE]IMAGINE FASHION workshop took place, focusing on the theme "Textile Details and Surfaces in Crochet," with the participation of Professor Celina Melo, a specialist with extensive experience in the field.

Currently, Celina Melo works as a crochet teacher at the Lagos Combatants League, where she shares her technical knowledge and practical experience, contributing to the preservation and appreciation of artisanal techniques and the culture of manual work.

During the workshop, second-year students of the Bachelor's Degree in Fashion and Textile Design and Production, within the scope of the Textile Design for Decoration course taught by Professor Gisele Nepomuceno, were introduced to different manual textile creation techniques.

The training allowed them to deepen their technical skills associated with manual work, promoting mastery of artisanal processes applied to the development of contemporary textile surfaces.

The exploration of crochet, as a creative and technical practice, allowed students to understand the potential of this textile language in creating textures, aesthetic differentiation, and product enhancement, both in decorative contexts and in clothing.

Beyond the conceptual and creative component, the workshop reinforced skills in manual precision, fine motor coordination, attention to detail, and the development of sustainable and innovative textile solutions.

The initiative thus consolidated the importance of handicrafts in contemporary design education, highlighting crochet as a technical, historical, and gestural heritage, essential for the preservation of tradition, memory, and cultural identity.
