The [RE] IMAGINE FASHION seminar reinforces ISMAT’s commitment to critical thinking, inclusion, and innovation in the field of fashion
On 13 June, the Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion and Textile Design and Production at Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes (ISMAT) held the final session of the semester as part of the [RE] IMAGINE FASHION seminar. The event featured a special guest lecture by Professor Eduarda Loureiro, who presented a talk entitled "Beyond the Binary – Fashion as a Language for Gender Expression".
During the session, held in ISMAT’s auditorium, the guest speaker shared an excerpt from her ongoing doctoral research at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, which explores fashion as a tool for the construction and expression of gender identities. The topic sparked considerable interest among attendees, encouraging active participation from both students and faculty throughout the event.
Students from all three years of the degree programme were present, highlighting the relevance and significance of the discussion proposed. The session provided a valuable space for critical reflection and the exchange of ideas on the social roles attributed to fashion and its influence on the representation of non-normative identities.
Professor Eduarda Loureiro holds a degree in Applied Communication: Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations from Lusófona University, a master’s degree in Communication Design from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, and a postgraduate qualification in Business of Fashion from Parsons School of Design in New York. She is a guest lecturer at Lusófona University – Lisbon University Centre, a doctoral researcher at CIAUD – Research Centre for Architecture, Urbanism and Design, and has presented papers and published articles in the field of Fashion Design.
The [RE] IMAGINE FASHION seminar reinforces ISMAT’s commitment to critical thinking, inclusion, and innovation in the field of fashion, promoting dialogue between academia, culture, and society.
