Fundamentals of Law
Business Management
-
ApresentaçãoPresentationThe main objective of the Fundamental Notions of Law course is to provide students beginning the business management program with a broad understanding of the legal system, its institutions, and how they function, through a set of fundamental concepts. The course introduces students to law in general, clarifying its position within social and economic systems, its relationship with the State, and its constitutionally established content. It aims to introduce students to legal reasoning. Given the study cycle, special attention is paid to the general legal foundations of the functioning of economic and financial institutions. The objective is not to train jurists, but rather managers capable of understanding the legal context in which they operate, making informed decisions, and avoiding legal risks. The course also seeks to provide some elements of comparative law, given the strong internationalization of the Algarve.

MetodologiaMethodologyTeaching is based on a distinction between theoretical and practical classes. Theoretical classes focus primarily on presenting the conceptual and structural dimensions of the legal subjects in question. In practical classes, the subjects are viewed from a pragmatic perspective, through the discussion and resolution of practical cases, both imagined and real. The combination of these approaches fosters the development and consolidation of reflective, analytical, and critical skills. Students with a special status stipulated by law or regulation that stipulates that class attendance is not mandatory but who wish to be included in the continuous assessment system must inform the course instructor as soon as they become aware of this, but always 90 days before the end of classes, so that the instructor can define another form of work or monitoring, which may include a report presentation and/or an oral exam.
