Methods of Statistical Data Processing and Analysis

Human Resources Management
  • ApresentaçãoPresentation
The growing amount of data available to organizations and its importance for evidence-based decision making make it essential to master statistical methods, as well as the computational resources that allow them to be implemented. In this Curricular Unit (UC) several statistical techniques of dependence and interdependence are addressed, emphasizing applications in Human Resources Management.
  • ProgramaProgramme
S1: Univariate, bivariate and multivariate perspectives of statistical data analysis S2: Data pre-processing techniques S3: Factor analysis S4: Reliability and validity of scales S5: Cluster analysis S6: Logistic regression S7: Human Resource Management Applications using data analysis software (jamovi)
  • ObjectivosObjectives
At the end of this curricular unit, students should be able to: LO1: Identify appropriate techniques to analyze data, according to the research objectives; LO2: Create, import and manipulate data; LO3: Apply interdependence techniques such as factor analysis and cluster analysis; LO4: Analyze the reliability and validity of scales; LO5: Develop predictive classification models; LO6: Use software for model development and forecasting; LO7: Critically analyze the results obtained, taking into account the context of the problems.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
The teaching methodology includes the expository method (TM1) to present the contents, the demonstrative method (TM2) to illustrate its application to practical cases and the active method (TM3) to solve classroom exercises with the use of a computer, in a problem-based learning approach. The evaluation is made by continuous assessment or written exam. The continuous assessment consists of one written test (40%), a group work (40%) and exercise solving (20%).
