ISMAT 81
Operational Research
Business Management
-
ApresentaçãoPresentationIn the business context, events and results are produced or influenced by the combined effect of numerous decisions made by the manager. Operational research involves a set of methodologies that aim to structure processes and support decision making through model building. In this curricular unit, the main concepts and techniques of Operational Research are presented and their application is illustrated in optimization problems, aiming, for example, to minimize costs, maximize profits, choose the best routes and use resources efficiently. This curricular unit prepares students to be better managers by developing important decision support skills.

MetodologiaMethodologyThe teaching methodology includes the expository method (TM1) to present the contents, the demonstrative method (TM2) to illustrate its application to practical cases and the active method (TM3) to solve classroom exercises, with and without the use of a computer, using Problem-Based Learning. The assessment is made by continuous assessment or written exam. The preferential assessment scheme is the continuous assessment throughout the semester, consisting of two written tests (individual) with a weight of 35% each, a group work (two or three students) with a weight of 20% and active participation in classes with a weight of 10%.
