Professor Mostafa Zekri is publishing a scientific article that is part of a series of papers produced as part of the international project RE-MILITARI - da escrita da guerra à imagem do campo de batalha no espaço português (1521-1621), funded by the FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology.
The article entitled ‘On an Artillery Treaty by the Moorish Ibrahim Ibn Ahmad Ibn Ghanim Ibn Muhammad Ibn Zakariya’ Al-Andalusi Al-Ra'is (17th Century)’, published in the Portuguese Journal of Military History in December 2024. The article presents an in-depth study of a rarely explored artillery treatise written by Ibrahim Ibn Ahmad, a Moorish captain and author who lived in the 17th century.
In this article, Mostafa Zekri analyses the historical and technical implications of the artillery treatise, considering not only the military context of the time, but also the influence of the Muslim tradition on the evolution of warfare techniques in the Iberian Peninsula.
Through a critical and contextualised analysis, the article contributes to a deeper understanding of the military history of the Iberian Peninsula, as well as to the appreciation of the scientific and technical legacy of Moorish authors, who are often marginalised in traditional historical narratives.
