Objetivos de Desenvoltimento Sustentável (ODS)

Sustainable Fashion in Focus, Reflection and Action for a Conscious Future

On 14 January, lecturer Gisele Nepomuceno was at the headquarters of the Praia da Rocha Rotary Club in Portimão. She was invited by the president, Mrs Lina Messias, to give an awareness-raising talk on ‘Sustainability and Circularity for Fashion’.

The event was attended by a participative audience, who showed great interest in the topic through questions and debates, reinforcing the relevance of sustainability in the fashion sector. The lecture discussed ways of rethinking consumption, avoiding impulsive purchases and excessive disposal, as well as promoting more conscious and sustainable practices.

The lecture is part of the activities of the ‘Sustainable and Circular Fashion’ curricular unit, which aligns its objectives with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the UN in 2015. These goals represent a global commitment to promote a more sustainable and equitable future by 2030, involving both the academic community and society in general in the search for innovative and responsible solutions.

As well as providing a space for exchanging knowledge, the event also served to publicise the projects developed by students from the Fashion and Textile Design and Production Degree programme, demonstrating how education can act as a multiplier agent for good practices in sustainable fashion.

Initiatives like this reaffirm the importance of debates and actions that promote a more conscious future, encouraging consumers and professionals to adopt more responsible habits in line with the environmental and social challenges of our time.
